This is Engine 325 of the Valley Railroad in Essex Connecticut. The engine was purchased at auction from the Knox and Kane Railroad of Pennsylvania in 2008. A rebuild was completed in 2011 and the engine went into service immediately. Click here for a complete history of the Railroad.
Engine 325 was originally a China Railways model SY 2-8-2. China continued to build and use steam engines long after many other countries switched to diesel.
These shots were taken, July 4th, along the rails between the main yard in Essex and the Valley Railroads river boat docked in Deep River Connecticut.
We often walk along the inlets here and will find Egrets and Herons. We had meant to set a date to photograph the trains but this day a steam train whistle gave us the opportunity to set up in a few locations.
