We discovered the Eastern Kingbird nest by watching the adults diving off a limb over the lake. It was at a spot where we could only get a clear view if we walked into the water. Once I would have done just that without thinking, now not so. I made do with what I had.
When I realized the Kingbird was getting ready to dive I snapped a shot, and watched him snatch the Dragonfly from the sky. It happened so fast the operative word here is ‘watched’.
After the catch it was back to the same small branch. This was the routine, that they did over and over. Most times getting lunch.
The lunch however was always for the kids further up that tree.
Before this Kingbird meeting I didn’t realize just how much like Swallows they are. In fact when we first found them we assumed that’s what they were.
We shot so many photos of the nest I may never get through them all. Though the days I get nothing will probably leave me some free time.
