Elizabeth Park, in Hartford CT, has 2 of the old iron, wood, and glass type design greenhouses. As a whole they are interesting buildings, their design records are even part of the New York Botanical Gardens archives of famous greenhouses.

Just once a photograph of an entire building was used in an article, it’s the details I always find that catch my eye.

Each time I visit the park there is something different about the buildings. It’s never anything big. There was only one major maintenance project ever done and I believe it was in the 1990’s.

Sometimes it’s the old gears and levers that stand out, other times lighting or small plants. Whatever it is at the time, these buildings just have character.
