Deep Thick Cypress Swamp

Taking photographs in a thick swamp is completely different than open marshes. Trying to find a single point to make the focus of the image is impossible. The trees, undergrowth, and colored water can all blend together.

Most swamps in the US are fairly small compared to the land around them. This, 4 holes swamp, is one of the largest. If you actually tried to walk through, with no path, a person would be lost within a short distance.

These photographs were created in less than a high resolution yet enlarged the thick woods are unbelievable.

A little fact here: A swamp is an area that is covered with water yet has trees. A marsh has grass and reeds in the water. Both can run dry at times. If the area never runs dry reeds or trees will not grow. Than it’s a lake.

Which is why one of the images above is a lake, inside a swamp.
