I haven’t seen many Little Blue Herons. The last was a young white one, so I’m not sure that counts.
They fish much different than the Snowy Egrets (about the same size). A Little Blue will stand there, and wait. Just wait, stroll a little, and wait again.
When the light hits them at the right angle an almost purple color replaces the blue.
This one was found in a cypress swamp and photographed at a pretty close range with a 300 mm lens. The reeds and colors always play havoc with the shots though.
