The header image here is an HDR composite of 3 separate photographs taken of the McLeod Plantation on James Island, South Carolina. Interesting to me is how it does not fit the ‘Hollywood’ image of a southern plantation building. However, the actually buildings I have seen all look like this, not ‘Gone With The Wind’.
Click here for a history of the Plantation.

Now the image above fits the movie image perfect.

The only catch is, the main photo was the original entrance, the Hollywood version added after the civil war. Both the Confederate and Union armies occupied the building at some point. Like all plantation properties the war damaged was extensive.

This image displays the original lane / road to the main house, alongside were the quarters where over 60 enslaved West Africans lived.

Records show up to 10 people lived in these small single room buildings. Food was grown behind each.
I believe the buildings a property are now owned by Charleston County.
Very interesting, it really reminded me of the movie “Gone with the Wind”, I must say I love those trees, they are absolutely fabulous! Great photos!
Thanks.
What a great house! I love these old houses.
Wonderful houses I agree. I did some inside work still to be finished, hope they come out.
I’ll look forward to them!
