Hidden alligators were not my intent when photographing them. These are shots taken over around a weeks time. They were a ‘ahh, an alligator’ type moment.

As I went through the images looking for Egret shots these were mixed in. The theme is simple, noticing them as you walk by. I know for a fact I missed some that were right there with me. Ellen and I make a point of telling each other. No matter how far.

Most of these were taken between 150 – 200 mm, or about half a long lens distance. Close, but not under foot. I have not had any make threatening motions at all. Though I have heard a few jaws slam shut.

You can see here they do a good job of hiding in plain sight.

In the photo above the alligator is resting on a board placed there for this purpose. I’m not the only one who likes them. He looks comfortable, mouth full, and not trying to hide at all.
Great shots particularly the last one!
Thanks. Another animal you can’t help but photograph. They just lurk around. I think a problem might be people don’t see them as a threat when all they do is float under cover. Luck the large ones stay away from the banks.
