While walking along an old rice field a smaller alligator slipped down the bank. My head was turned just as he slipped in so I was able to catch several decent shots. I could have missed him completely had I not glanced over.
The trail did a little loop so getting a different angle was easy. It’s not like they run away from us anyway.
However, as we moved along the bank I also spotted a small log shaking in the water. At first I though the large stick was a snake, but no just a branch.
Then this one surfaced.
Just by the shape and texture of her head you can tell this was not one of the small ones. I would guess around 7 feet.
The small one we first spotted was long gone now. Big alligators are not picky about what they eat.
The large one drifted over to the far bank and promptly seemed to fall asleep, floating along the water. Never moved after that.
Every walk has the potential for surprise or two. This was a two.
