These photographs were taken at the far end of an old rice field. I don’t think I have ever shot a young Tricolored like this. The browns and mottled shades were much different than an adult.

For a few minutes we were able to walk around both sides of the bird and bank. There wasn’t much food so maybe he was hoping we would just go away. I finally did, he won.



I also got reminded here to pay attention. In my ‘zeal’ for the shot I made the classic mistake of moving away from a worn path. No dangerous reptiles….heavy socks and spray didn’t matter, some small bugs ate me for lunch.

Just wait. They look to be heading north. Now they are seen often in southern New England.
I’d love to see one.
