These photographs are as much about the swamp as they are the birds.

I was never sure which lens to use and changing to another was a balancing act. I settled on a 70 – 300 mm. At least I could get some decent landscape shots while still be ready for any birds we might spot.

Next time maybe 2 camera bodies. I might also sink the boat with all my junk. The heron above stayed just like this for several minutes. But too many logs to get closer without crowding his space.


This Osprey caught a few fish while we watched but the dive itself always seemed to be behind some floating islands or trees.
I will probably go back to this same location after the fall storms to see how things might have changed. The migrating birds from up north will be there too.
