I don’t think I have walked down an old Main Street like this since Connecticut. I usually don’t take a very flattering picture of these towns.

Most small towns have an old downtown which has seen better days, and my first choice is to shoot black and white on a shorter lens. Again, not very flattering.

The character, like this original 1930’s Art Deco store front, comes through anyway. Just in a different light.

Besides, that’s the beauty of this type of photography. Nobody wants to view a bunch of boring snap shots anyway.

Very nice! I think these scenes lend themselves to black and white.
I would like to do more of this. It changes how you need to plan a shot, texture and light. Many times I will set the camera to monotone so I can get a quick view on screen. Certainly easier than the old film days.
They are not non-flattering. They are great! I love old towns and pics like this.
Thanks Laura. For me it’s back to the old days. Of course it’s not NY Central Park, and I now think twice before kneeling on the ground. I can also hit the shutter more than 16 times which helps get better shots.
You’re welcome. I’m part of a Facebook group that shares old pictures of our hometown. I love seeing these pictures. <3 And yes, don't we all ????
