One of the success stories, back from the brink after DDT was banned. So many communities and organizations built nesting platforms the population is healthy and growing now.
We have been photographing these birds for several years and they still fascinate me. They are actually easier to capture in their fishing dives in New England than South Carolina. The rivers and rocky shores allowed us to get closer to the hunting areas up north.
This bird lost sight in one eye in an accident and now is part of a wildlife educational program at The Avian Conservation Center in South Carolina.
These images were taken during the annual Photographers day. We have been lucky to be included and this is our second year. Last year it took a 2 day drive with luggage, equipment, and a dog. This year we just had to get up an hour earlier than normal. That works for me.
