He (or she) was young. Maybe 3 feet long. And on the trail which wasn’t all that wide.

After a few minutes it became very clear the alligator was staying right there, had no intention of leaving the sun spot.

We walked by, sticking to the right side of the path. The above was taken as I was about even with him. None of these were shot at a long distance, my big lens would not have even focused.
I liked these because there could be perspective here as to the size of the animal. Big enough to scare the hell out of you if a sudden move was made but we were not going to be lunch.
I volunteered to walk past first, I have done this before. I realize now the only response from my wife was an OK. She had her camera at the ready too. Interesting.

Thank you. I certainly would not poke him. You can tell by the tree and weeds around him how big (or not) he is. For an alligator 3 feet is a juvenile. Basic rule around here is just walk on by and ignore him. And do not stick a camera in his face (any closer than mine).
