Eurasian Eagle Owl - Click To Enlarge

Eurasian Eagle Owl Portrait

Photographers love this bird. An Eagle Owl probably has the most striking eyes of all the owls. Also, they are really big. The name gives it away, it’s the size of an eagle.

Eagle Owls, and there are different types, are one of the biggest owls. Only a Great Grey Owl can be a little larger. At almost 3 feet tall and wind span of 6 1/2 feet it is big. A female can weigh as much as 10 pounds (4.6 kg). That is 3 times the size of a Great Horned Owl.

Like all owls when they fly, you hear nothing. This bird flew about 10 feet away from me with not a sound.

I have worked with this bird before so this time I positioned myself to be closer for head shots rather than in flight.

The shot below is from a previous session used for promotions on the raptor center and other web sites. It gives a fairly good perspective on size.
