Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures are very common here. Much more so than New England. At first I looked at them with the same aversion as many people. Now, having seen them in the wild and up close I appreciate them as much as any other large bird.
Having no feathers on their head helps with cleanliness. As a scavenger the service they perform is very important, if not pleasant to think about.
When you get the chance just watch them fly. There are few other birds like them up there.
