Revisit To Magnolia Cemetery

A frequent subject for us is the old Magnolia Cemetery just outside of Charleston, South Carolina. Magnolia is old, sinking into the marsh, and in many places going to ruin. Marsh fly’s can drive you away. All that, but it is a magical place to visit.

There are 3 cemeteries in the US like this. The famous cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana, Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia (Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Kevin Spacey, John Cusack, the film version 1997), and this the Magnolia Cemetery. All old southern burial grounds. Many above ground crypts because of marshlands, and the famous Spanish moss.

Our sites have many new visitors and I thought a short tour here would be an interesting way to introduce another aspect of our work.

    1. Thank you very much. There is much to see and absorb there. A special site for southern civil war unknown sailors. Another for the South Carolina regiments lost in Gettysburg, it has so many early US revolutionary war notables you would think of a Boston cemetery. A must visit for hearty souls that come to Charleston.
