This was a pleasant surprise. We were watching a group of teals moving along the edge of an open pool. Right in the middle were 2 male Wood Ducks.


There was no time to do anything other than go for the shot. We had been spotted and the group was making a direct exit into reeds.

Light and water color here is exactly what I don’t want. When standing on the swamp bank, peering through brush, say thank you and move on.
Nobody expects the wood duck …
