Embarrassed to say I didn’t know what I was shooting when this heron blew by me. Earlier I had been trying to photograph a juvenile Night Heron. I assumed it was him.
I caught the bird in the corner of my eye and could see he would pass directly in front of me.
I was already shooting birds in flight so most of my camera settings were just fine. About 3/4 of the way past me I realized it was a speedy Green Heron. Not much I could do at that point.
The last shots were not in focus. My shutter speed was 1/1250 which I feel is about right for most normal in flight shots. Some people would be faster but every time I go faster the exposure isn’t right. It works for me.
We have commented several times recently how the Green Herons disappeared. Maybe they’re back now.
