A Swift Heron

Taken as a Great Blue Heron dropped from the nest tree and quickly flew off. These were close enough to be shot with my long lens way pulled back.

The photo above was the first captured and surprisingly good. I find my first shot usually more of a ‘settle in’ than for accuracy.

Above, the bird moved into the light over water and I had a good focus on him, good bokeh behind, but a little bright. I did a quick split toning later on during processing to offset it (I never do that) and while it changed the feeling of the image I thought it OK. The heron still looks good and the change accented the bird.

The question now is can I do that toning again ?
