The big issue with photographing Great Egrets is how white they are. One mistake and the entire shot is blown out, the bird is over exposed. It happens all the time.

This egret flew into the shadow, all the bright sun and reeds maybe 15 feet behind. All that served to highlight the details of his feathers and structure. I could not have picked a better place.
