Right after I added the article on the heron and alligator I stumbled on this. Taking a close look it turns out to be the same place, and same alligator. Image date is the same also.

I wonder if it is the same thing as a peacock’s tail feathers, or when squirrels taunt rattlesnakes? The evolutionary biology issue tends to be that the animal is saying, “See? I am so good, so fast and so smart I can do what lesser ones of my species cannot or dare not do. Doesn’t that just make me hot?!?!”
