These are the most common raptor we see lately. However, I was not prepared for this one.
The grounds here are very open, manicured, and planted with a huge assortment of flowers. Yet I don’t see many small mammals or birds. They seemed to be only at a retention pond.
Which of course was exactly the spot to find a hawk. A case of not paying attention.
Good news for me I did have a sized 70-300 in my bag so I quickly swapped lens and took a few fast shots.
The best chance I completely missed when he dropped to the ground 20 feet from me (a bush in between).
