Great Egret Reflections

These images were taken end of day when one side of the swamp was hidden from the sun. Light metering was set to ‘spot meter’ which meant I would get exposure for the white bird, the surrounding part of the photograph would be, by default, darker. Sounds reasonable.

For non photographers, I had a vague idea of what would be cool, a vague idea of how to make it happen, and a hope I might be right.

Some images were a little bright, others dark, a few in the middle like these. Now I need to go back exact same time and try it again.

It can be hard to photograph white birds so this method helps pay attention to the bright whites. Of course done in the sun the whole thing has a chance to be ‘Really’ white and blow the whole shot away. That’s where that whole ‘vague’ thing comes in…

    1. Thank you. Indeed they are graceful. Yesterday I witnessed a male fly ‘figure 8’ patterns to a tight circle to impress a female. Watched it and completely blew the shots !
