These birds are as common as a pigeon in the city, at least in the marshes. Yet because they keep tight flocks and harsh light decent images are hard to come by.

Like a Coot they have absurdly long toes, yes very weird. However, it makes sense here. They flap their wings fast and suddenly are running across the water and vegetation. Fast, which helps them avoid being dinner.

At first sight, I thought the bird was sitting on an alligator. ☺
I thought so too. That does happen. Most times with no problem.
