Several of the smaller Night Herons have moved into rookeries now. I’m not sure of the timing, but it seems a little early.
Not as large as other herons, about 2 feet tall, they are stocky and almost look fat. Remind me of a penguin when I see them on the ground.
This bird was in the normal day time location, in shade hidden away. They have been out flying but for most part they live up to their name and come out at night.
