These displays are for attracting a mate, displaying dominance, and acts of aggression.

Now that the birds are sitting, the other partner is usually near by, and ‘being all puffy’.


Egrets seem to stay around the nesting area more than the Blue Herons.

Thanks. There are a pretty large number of nesting pairs, and most are in full plumage. I had a few different birds so thought it would be easier to add them all together.

The plumage and green patch make these birds just incredible to photo. Not to mention in the swamps/marshes down here they are all over. Up north (New England) you might hunt half a day to get a shot.
