Egrets will make a nest, like a heron, out in the open. Given the option a nest in brush or a thick tree is more to their liking.
This nest is in a rookery that is made up of thicker, small trees. Here there are at least 10-12 new nests.
Like all rookeries it is surrounded by water. This helps keep predators away. Especially since the water almost always has alligators around here.
