A few days ago it was like some alligators had rushed to get the good spots, before any humans wanted them. They wanted a spot that has sun, but for us is a location to photograph young herons. First come first served so to speak.
For the image above I had to lean over and shoot up the bank. The lens was too big for this, I had it pulled back to the minimum 150 mm. I also didn’t want to stand on the slippery bank.
After taking the first photo here all I needed was to turn around and look along the bank in the other direction. This smaller alligator has already claimed a spot.
If you look behind the alligator above you will see his ‘tracks’ . When an alligator swims through the swamp weeds you can see ‘tracks’. Almost like they had moved through snow, like a foot print.
This is a great thing to know when out looking around here. You can easily see where one has come and gone, and with luck there are no surprises.
