Great Blue Heron, Turtle, Now What?

We walked right up to this Great Blue because he was behind a tree. So close it was hard to focus with a big lens.

The sequence started with the image below.

I jumped because first I was almost on top of him, and immediately he splashed us.

He came up with this, a turtle. A very hard shell turtle.

He flipped it around, worked on the shell, and nothing was happening. Of course not. Again, hard shell.

So, in a split second a decision was made. And it was gone…whole.

    1. Thanks. We usually use lens that have a minimum of 150 mm . I think the closest we can focus is 10 feet. Ellen and I were both moving around (bumping into each other) trying to get something in the view finder. The bird surprised us by being right behind a tree and on the path of an old pond.
