When this night heron landed right in front of me I almost missed the touch down. These are usually shy birds and I wasn’t ready at all. Because I’m not ready a lot I keep my lens pulled all the way back when walking.

This was 150mm, all the way back. That’s the only reason I managed this one.

Once he landed, he just sat there. He looked around a little, but I don’t know why he came there.

Not wanting to miss anything I kept shooting. After around 100+ I stopped. I picked these at random, I have plenty of others. All the same.

Thank you for visiting, and sharing part of our portfolio. Hemingway can rest in peace, but I do think it’s important to show the world wildlife they may never get to see.
You are welcome!
Thanks for the chuckle – I, too, frequently have a couple hundred, all the same. And then I spend way too much time trying to discern which is the best when most differences are not easily discernible.
I just did the same thing…again minutes ago. The very definition of insanity !
Ted, I never knew that there were nocturnal herons. I think all nocturnal birds have short necks.
There are 2 types of nocturnal herons here. The Blacked-crowned and a Yellow-crowned (which I have not seen lately).
