Usually birds are pretty, but these are just plain ‘striking’ ! First time I have photographed them.

From what I can find the South Carolina Lowcountry marshes are about as far north as they like.

I have read they nest in the thousands at the Great Sale Lake, Utah.

These photographs were taken in a marsh, salt, in the Bear Island Wildlife Management Area. It’s 12,000 acres of mostly marshes. Oh, and bugs…hungry Deer Fly’s !
They are beautiful birds, terrific shots!
They really are beautiful. I don’t think the light and water did them justice and there was only so much I could do. Not the easiest place to get to but I would like a second chance. The weather (a stiff breeze) will need to be perfect.
Beautiful shots. The bird has a bent beak which is not very common.
There are not many species with that type of bill.
