Black Skimmer And A School Of Fish

Colorful, extremely fast, and entertaining.  Almost all the photographs are throw away’s. But they are fun.

In the image above (enlarge to view) you can see the odd shaped bill, and the fish being chased.

The top beak is shorter than the bottom. This bird dips his beak along the waters surface and slams it shut if it touches a fish.

They fly at a great speed to get momentum right before they drag their bill through the surface.

    1. These birds live on the coastline, and from what I see warmer climates. Southern US and down into South America. The shots are hard to get since they are like big swallows in the air. I have several others still to publish but it appears I got lucky

    1. Now you see why they can fish at night. They fish by ‘touch’. Skim the surface, then snap the bill shut, can’t miss with that odd shaped bill.
