It wasn’t more than 5 minutes after the first young Heron took flight that an Egret attacked. A single young Heron chick is fair game for aggressive Egrets. They see them as an easier target.

The Egret took up the usual location of a higher branch to stand over a chick.

The young bird had survived several other attacks and was not a baby any longer.

In fact he was just as big, and maybe heavier than the attacking bird. So the Heron went on the offensive. He stood back up and moved to a higher spot.

At that point the Great Egret moved up the tree and stopped immediately.
I think at this point there will not be too many more Egret attacks.
Oh, wow! I’m glad he was able to hold his own!
Big enough now for the real world. Which isn’t easy.
