Two Herons, One Fish

While I have seen this before, not with such patience. I guess this is one of the ways they learn how to wait so long out hunting.

I don’t visit this nest often even though it had 2 young birds. When I stopped by I found them in a duel. An adult dropped off a fish, and both wanted it.

There are more than the usual number of photographs here, but this tug of war lasted close to 1 1/2 hours. Neither would let go.

When the fish was won, it was only for a moment.

There was still some fish when I left, and a Heron on either end. A new meaning to sibling rivalry.
