They are completely silent when they fly. Unless you are watching and ready the flight will be finished before you lift the camera.
From previous experiences, and learning the hard way a lot of times, I have seen the ‘pre’ flight moves.
The image above shows the owl getting ready to leave. They will dip low, pull their head back, and then drop down right away.
Most Owls don’t fly high off the ground. They tend to move low, just above the surface. This bird above dropped a few feet and was gone.
The trees and branches were fairly thick here so the bird was going a little slow and I could follow him.
Once gone it was back to plodding along and hoping to find the next one.
