There is always something new to see when out photographing wildlife. In this case a Great Egret that just could not hold onto his catch.

I watched as he caught fish, and lost them, over and over. The fish looked to be small flounders. No problem for a big Egret.

Some fish release a toxic substance to protect themselves. An Egret will wash these fish before eating them. This was just a flounder, should have been a quick bite to eat.

Above, it’s a drop.

I did see him finally get the fish. The funny thing was I found him again later and watched the same ‘catch and release’ all over again.
Excellent series. I wonder what the problem was…
It must have to do with the fish, maybe getting it in the right position to swallow, or it tasted like xxxxx.
