Many times in the articles here I mention the Ashley River. I have added this quick photograph just as a point of reference.
The Ashley River is a blackwater / tidal river in South Carolina, rising from the Wassamassaw and Great Cypress Swamps in western Berkeley County. The river length is only 22 miles.
For the most part the banks of the river are marshes, until it reaches Charleston. Then it eventually joins the Cooper River and empties into Charleston Harbor.
Before reaching Charleston the river is home to an enormous amount of wildlife and is a critical habitat.
