This bird caught a fish that was huge. When you look at these photographs it’s hard to believe he could swallow it.
They catch and eat ones larger than this. It’s not easy, but the manage.
A few other Heron noticed his catch and came around looking to maybe steal it so after a few minutes he took off into the deep reeds.

It looks like it speared the fish. Great captures.
Herons and Egrets do spear their prey. I have seen them get fish stuck on their bills.
I’ve seen these herons catch catfish but nothing this large! Very nice!
