The American Avocet is not a bird I was familiar with when up north. They are smaller, delicate shore birds. Beautiful, and very fast in the air.

They flock together, and feed with their upturned bills as a group.

I have photographed them in the marsh shallows feeding, but never in flight.

I was surprised I caught them at all. Now I need to see what my camera and lens were so I stand a chance at doing it again.
