Old Magnolia Cemetery, A True Southern Experience

I recently watched a small clip on TV about Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah Ga. and it inspired me to finish a few photographs in the ‘to do’ pile.

About 90 miles up the road from Savannah is a sister cemetery, Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston.

There are as many differences as similarities. Both are old Southern Gothic and hauntingly beautiful. However Magnolia has not been maintained or promoted like Bonaventure.

Bonaventure has famous celebrities among the burial grounds. Magnolia has many civil war gravestones as well as historic member of american politics.

Both have mausoleums, haunting’s, and markers that are unique to only a handful of historic cemeteries.

One major difference is Bonaventure is open for tours at night. Magnolia is locked, closed and none ever tours there at night.
