Kingfisher Fishing

This female Kingfisher tried several times to catch small fish. Finally she was successful. And finally I was in the right spot.

She returned to the same perch after each dive.

These birds are incredibly fast, which means I miss many more shots than I get.

All the hard work paid off with a meal.

    1. Ours have a lot of blue that shimmers in the light. But I’d hate to try and photo them as they always seem to be flying fast or perched somewhere too high! Don’t see them much down south here. There were plenty where I grew up in northern NZ.

  1. I was going to say that I thought they were bluer, but it must be a different species in the north? They’re beautiful and have a weird cry. Nice shots!

    1. This is a Belted Kingfisher, female. Texas, US, has 2 other species. The rest of North America has the Belted (I’m pretty sure, but not 100% sure).
