Fly By, White Ibis

This Ibis in flight was taken along the ocean shore. Which meant there was a good chance the bird wasn’t full of mud. And yes, he was (mostly) clean.

Enlarge the above and you will see some ‘stuff’ on his bill. These birds live everywhere on the southern coast so half the time they are knee deep in swamp mud.

When in large flocks Ibis can fly slow, but for the most part the prefer full speed ahead.

I think this bird was slowing down when I spotted him, which explains how I caught 3 images in focus.

    1. Thank you. Close Ibis is usually a miss, they fly too fast for close work. We shoot in flight a lot, I am bound to get focus sooner or later.

    2. I haven’t had a lot of luck with in flight photos, but I haven’t really tried that many either. This one is so good, I’m going to revisit flying photos again.

    3. Thanks. We do this 4/5 days a week, so for us it’s practice. The right tools are critical too. However, the number of opportunities missed, or shots not good far out weighs the good ones.
