We knew one of the big Alligators was on the trail, so you glance left and right… not up.

We had gone past the Alligators when I spotted this over head.

It looks much worse in photographs. The Ribbon Snake is small, it averages 16–35 in (41–89 cm) in length so unless you are a small bird or mouse all is good.

Every trip out is different!
NOTE: I have been told since this article was published this should be a Yellow Rat Snake. Given most anybody around me knows more about local snakes … a Rat Snake it is.
