For me this is a surprising shot of a Gallinule. There’s clear open water and the light didn’t hide any of the dark colors.

Thanks. These are really common in the marshes down here, almost like the pigeons up north. However, they are also pretty shy most of the time. Good reason too, everything wants to eat them 🙂
It makes capturing them that much more special. Where as the pigeons up here will sit (and $hit) on your window sill all day long for a photo shoot.
