The articles here usually have some type of theme, which can be a problem when you have a few random photographs you like.

This page has a theme, of having none at all. The only thing they have in common is being from the same afternoon.

Blue-winged Teals. If there is water, and duck weed you will usually find these Teals. Their behavior is nothing like northern ducks. They are shy and survive by being just that way.

Northern Cardinal, in a swamp. I don’t see many of them. I assume they are common like every where else. It must be me.

White Ibis. This must be their year in South Carolina. Out in the far marshlands I can find huge flocks now. Even in the swamps there looks to be many more.

Eastern Phoebe. Very common, shy like the others.

A general observation on small birds here is that they live in a much wilder environment than New England birds. Both are filled with dangers for small birds, more so around the Lowcountry. It is in their benefit to keep away from anything remotely threatening.
