These are elegant birds. Tall, 18 Inches (45.5cm) and thin. I don’t see them very often.

The upward curved bill is very distinctive so an ID is easy.

Getting close is always a problem since they walk in shallow open marshes.

I was surprised I was able to get these shots at all.
These birds are really unique. I have never seen one and their bills are so different from any bird I have seen. Love the photos and your work.

The Avocet and Stilt are the only 2 species like this in North America. There are only 7 species like this world wide. So yes…unique…and so cool 🙂
