Another series of headstones from an old cemetery. Part of a never ending supply (or close to it).
In this location a large number of old stones have begun to fall and crumble. Off in the background is a military section, confederate soldiers from the Gettysburg battles are buried here.
Many sites are marked by low carved stones placed along the lines of what I assume to be the coffins. However they do appear to be small.
Above, another view of low carved stones marking individual sites.
A walk through these old cemeteries is also a lesson of both local and national history.
I love cemeteries, especially the historical ones.
The old New England cemeteries are great, but the atmosphere of the southern ones is incredible.
I agree.
