Timing is everything. I completely missed him darting under the water to grab the fish. However I kept shooting when the bird raised up and ‘flipped’ it.
He held the fish and walked away without eating it.
I read some place many of the best action shots are missed because the photographer stopped shooting when they assumed the scene was over. Think of players jumping in the air after they score a goal. That just stuck with me and it’s helped.
