A Belted Kingfisher. Females will have a rich brown colored ‘belt’ along the front chest. Males do not. All the Kingfishers published on this site have been females until now.
Kingfishers are notorious for being camera shy. Here I was shooting from inside my car, using it as a blind.
Of course being in a great position to photograph him meant he would sit like a statue, same position. Not very exciting after the first initial shots.

They are incredibly hard to shoot. I see them in the marshes almost every time we go out…yet any images are rare.
