Sandhill Cranes, Mated Pair

These are impressive, very impressive, birds. Very tall and a distinct call. This photograph should be viewed full screen (click image) to see their beauty.

I had never heard them in the wild, but immediately knew they were there long before seeing them.

  1. Wonderful. These birds are known to migrate through the San Luis Valley where we have property….have yet to be there at the right time. Thanks for the great photograph and reminder. Where was the photo taken, and what time of year?

    1. Glad you liked it, since there is more to come, I couldn’t stop shooting.

This was taken on the Florida coast near Merritt Island. Shot maybe 2 weeks ago. They were obviously a mated pair and walked along with us for a long time.

We took a drive down about 4 hours south of Charleston SC to shot the birds there before the swamps here became busy.

      Thanks again.
